William James Morrison Sr.

MILLERTON — William James Morrison Sr., 97, a 65-year resident of Millerton, died peacefully on Feb. 17, 2019, at his home surrounded by his loving family. 

Bill worked in the chemical mixing room at Keuffel & Esser in Millerton for more than 25 years, before retiring in 1984.

Laura S. Hawks

SALISBURY — Laura S. Hawks passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on Feb. 3, 2019. 

Laura was born on Feb. 15, 1934, in Antwerp, Belgium, the daughter of Saturnino Salas of Argentina and Maria Cornelia Gevaert of Belgium. She was the granddaughter of Lieven Gevaert, a Flemish industrialist, and his wife, Maria. 

George G. Vincent

SALISBURY — George G. Vincent, 97, of Salisbury died on Jan. 18, 2019, of natural causes. 

George was born in Sewickley, Pa., on Aug. 17, 1921, to Lewis and Norma G. Vincent.

George served in the Army Signal Corps during World War II. In 1949, he married Virginia “Bunny” Burgwin of Sewickley Heights, Pa. Soon after their marriage the couple moved to New York City where George studied music at Juilliard. 

James Joseph Victory

NORTH CANAAN — James Joseph Victory, 69, of North Canaan and Port St. Joe, Fla., went to be with the Lord on Feb. 14, 2019, surrounded by family. 

He was born April 16, 1949, to the late James Victory Sr. and Gina Segalla Victory. He was raised in North Canaan alongside his younger brother and best friend, Stephen Victory.

James graduated from Housatonic Valley Regional High School in 1968. He also attended Northwestern Connecticut Community College and the Computer Processing Institute. 

Alyce M. Larkin

GALLATIN, N.Y. – Alyce M. Larkin, 69, passed away on Feb. 5, 2019, at Vassar Brothers Hospital in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. 

She was born on Nov. 1, 1949, in Rhinebeck, N.Y., the daughter of Thomas and Alice E. (Wheeler) Remsburger Jr. 

Mrs. Larkin was a teacher’s aide for Pine Plains Central School District in Pine Plains. 

She was a charter member of the Pine Plains Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed doing family genealogy and antiquing and she loved cats.

Sandra J. Marshall

MILLERTON — Sandra J. Marshall, 73, of Tupper Lake, N.Y., died Jan. 29, 2019, at the Alice Center in Malone, N.Y.

Born on July 3, 1945, in Norwich, N.Y., she was the daughter of Elizabeth (Arnold) and Albert Anderson. She graduated from Webutuck High School in 1964.

On Dec. 22, 1973, she married John W. Marshall Sr. in Sharon. He predeceased her on Nov. 4, 2002.

Sandra was employed at theWassaic Developmental Center and the Harlem Valley Psychiatric Hospital in Wingdale, N.Y., retiring after 30 years of service.

Dr. Laurence C. ‘Topper’ Smith

NORTH CANAAN — Dr. Laurence C. “Topper” Smith, 84, passed away in Denver, Colo., on Jan. 25, 2019, surrounded by his loving family.

Laurence was born and raised in North Canaan, the son of the late Loretta (Donsbough) Smith, a long time teacher in Falls Village.

He is survived by his wife, Dr. Debra Smith; his brother, Peter; his former wife, Mary Gertrude Smith,née Paquette, of Kent and Denver; and his 10 children, 18 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

John Thomas Luning

SALISBURY  — John Thomas Luning died on Feb. 3, 2019, of pancreatic cancer, a disease he mercifully suffered for a very short time.   Family and friends are mourning the passing of a kind, gracious, witty, quirky and decent man.  He had just reached 79 years on Jan. 19.  As he was every night, his cat, Kitty, was at the foot of the bed as John passed.

Virginia Elizabeth (Eaton) (Sturges) Ferranti

NORTH CANAAN — Virginia Elizabeth (Eaton) (Sturges) Ferranti, widow of Thomas Dominic Ferranti, went to be with Jesus on Feb. 3, 2019. 

She was born Dec. 10, 1931, in Great Barrington, the daughter of Marion (Anson) and Hamilton “Hammy” Eaton of Lakeville.  

She graduated from Housatonic Valley Regional High School in 1951. She also graduated from St. Mary’s Baby Hospital in Albany, N.Y.
