Gladys (Stevens) Grytzell

NORTH CANAAN — Gladys (Stevens) Grytzell, 90, died Aug. 5, 2011, at Geer Village. She was the widow of Arthur Grytzell.

She was born Oct. 24, 1920, in North Canaan, the daughter of the late Edith (Lawrence) and Jarvis Stevens.

She lived in the North Canaan area for most of her life, enjoying her home on Prospect Street in Lakeville in her later years.

Gladys served in the military during World War II and received recognition on July 22, 2008, for her patriotism and sacrifice. For many years she worked as a clerk in the Hartford area.

Darren C. Good

STANFORDVILLE — Darren C. Good, 44, passed away on Sept. 7, 2011.

He was born in Queens, N.Y., on May 16, 1967, the son of Richard F. Good of Stanfordville and the late Sarah J. “Sally” (McReynolds) Good.

He was the head cook for Home Plate in Stanfordville.
He was a 1985 graduate of Stissing Mountain High School.

In addition to his loving father Richard, he is survived by a sister, Michelle H. Jarvis of Sanibel, Fla.; a brother, Craig M. Good of Maryville, Tenn.; two nieces, Paige and Ainsley Good; and two nephews, Gavin Good and Aidan Jarvis.

Dorothy Cary (Sanford) McCunn

NORTH CANAAN — Dorothy Cary (Sanford) McCunn passed away in her home at 3 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2011, under the tender care of SVNA Hospice.

At her bedside were her two loving sons, Douglas and David, and their wives, Joan and Shirley. Holding her hand was her husband and best friend, Ian.

At peace with herself, she was quite content to have lived a full life of 87-and-a-half years.

Dorothy and Ian were married in Brooklyn, N.Y., on June 22, 1946. Three years later they moved to Floral Park, N.Y., where they spent 37 wonderful years raising a family.

Ryan James Palmer

SHARON — Ryan James Palmer, 17, died Sept. 5, 2011, at UMass Medical Center from complications of an injury which occurred at the young age of 2.

Robert F. Woodward

RED HOOK — Robert F. Woodward’s spirit passed on Sept. 4, 2011, after a long and valiant fight against thyroid cancer.

He was the son of the late Hazel and John Woodward of Gallatin.

He is survived by his wife, Linda; and his children, Diane Woodward and Patrick Mulkerrin, Donna Woodward and Kurt Strassberger, and Doris and Bill Nitz; his two grandchildren, Nate and Eliza Strassberger, whom he loved and dearly adored; his loving sister, Mary MacGlashan and her husband, Ronnie; his sister-in-law, Edith Woodward; and many nieces, nephews and cousins that will miss him.

Ralph Lawrence Elliott

PINE PLAINS — Ralph Lawrence Elliott, 87, of Pine Plains passed away peacefully Sept. 8, 2011, at the home of his daughter, Gayle Elliott Brown, and her fiancé, Gary Beatty, in Red Hook, N.Y.

He was lovingly cared for by family members and Ulster County Hospice since he was discharged from Vassar Brothers Hospital on July 27, 2011.

Ralph was born Dec. 11, 1923, in the Bronx to Irene Wilfor (Haslett) and Ralph Elliott and was raised in Westchester County.

Sarah Jane (Davis) Wortman

HARWINTON, Conn. — Sarah Jane (Davis) Wortman, 77, died Aug. 23, 2011, at Laurel Hill Nursing Home in Winsted. She was the widow of Lowell K. Wortman Sr. They were married for 55 years.

She was born on April 14, 1934, the daughter of the late Frances (Sherwood) and Elmore Davis of Bakerville, Conn.

Sarah loved to travel, especially to Maine. She enjoyed a variety of hobbies, including cooking, playing canasta, knitting, tatting and ceramics.

Kenneth J. Thompson

WASSAIC — Kenneth J. Thompson, 84, a longtime resident of Wassaic, died Sept. 11, 2011, at Sharon Health Care Center.

Mr. Thompson was a self-employed carpenter for over 20 years. He was born Nov. 11, 1926, in Kent, the son of the late Myrtle (Mitchell) and Howard Thompson. He married Margaret Murphy on June 28, 1947, in Amenia. She died on Dec. 29, 2010.

Kyle Robert Whelan

SHARON — Kyle Robert Whelan, of Baltimore, Md., passed away suddenly Sept. 1, 2011. He was 26.

Kyle is survived by his love, Sophie Hinderberger of Baltimore; his brothers, Ian and Kevin Whelan; and his parents, Pat and Bob Whelan of Sharon; his grandparents, Mary and James Woodhouse; his aunts and uncles, Steve and Patty Woodhouse, Jamie and Tom Butka and Jeff and Halina Whelan; his cousins, Kate and Jamie Woodhouse and Tommy and Rachel Butka; and an incredible number of friends and acquaintances who he had touched in his time with us.

Susan Hamilton Gifford-DeLeon

PLANTATION, Fla. — Susan Hamilton Gifford-DeLeon, 49, entrepreneur and co-owner of Brandel, Inc., died Aug. 22. 2011, near her home in Plantation, Fla. She was the wife of Benjamin DeLeon.

Mrs. Gifford-DeLeon, daughter to the late Norma and George Gifford, was born in Philadelphia, Pa. When she was a young child, the family moved to Winchester Center.
