John Malone

MILLERTON — John Malone, born Feb. 28, 1935, in London, England, passed away peacefully on Oct. 9, 2011, from metastatic pancreatic cancer at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, Mass.

John was an extraordinary man, and those who met him were uplifted by his kindness, keen wit and positive outlook. John was a gifted singer and graced many events with his Irish tenor voice. His British wit and knowledge of politics and public affairs created lively discussions at many dinner parties.

Natale Negri

NORTH CANAAN ­— Natale “Ned” Negri, 96, died peacefully on Oct. 11, 2011, at his home. He was the husband of Ida (Mezzofalco) Negri. Mr. and Mrs. Negri were wed Sept. 5, 1944, and celebrated their 67th anniversary this year. Ned was born in East Canaan on Dec. 25, 1914, son of the late Domenic and Margaret (Zazzera) Negri.

Marie Louise (Aakjar) Peterson

SHARON — Marie Louise (Aakjar) Peterson, 97, passed away Oct. 13, 2011, at Noble Horizons, the beloved widow of Melvin G. Peterson, who died in October 1983.

Doris A. Westfall

ANCRAMDALE — Doris A. Westfall, 68, passed away on Oct. 14, 2011, at Geer Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in North Canaan.

She was born in Great Barrington, Mass., on Oct. 17, 1942, the daughter of the late Dora (Shook) and William Smith Sr.

Doris was the Ancram tax collector from 1978 to 1987. She was a seamstress and past member of the Tri–Mountain Square Dancers.

She loved cats, her garden and enjoyed her crafts. She also had a CB radio; her handle name was “Square Dance.” For many nights, she kept the truckers awake at night.

Anna Whitbeck

SALISBURY — Anna Whitbeck, 84, a lifelong resident of Salisbury, died Oct. 10, 2011, at Noble Horizons. She was the daughter of Carrie (Marston) and Walter Samuel Whitbeck.

For many years, Anna was part-owner with her brothers of the family business, The Salisbury Pharmacy. She ran the soda fountain, later to become the coffee shop, and over the years employed many of the town’s young people. She was famous for her milkshakes.

Helen E. Nay

WINSTED — Helen E. Nay of Winsted died Oct. 7, 2011. Calling hours were held Oct. 12, and a Mass of Christian burial was held Oct. 13 at St. Joseph Church. Montano-Shea Funeral Home has care of arrangements.

William Sexauer

BARKHAMSTED — William Sexauer, 87, of Barkhamsted, died Oct. 6, 2011. Funeral arrangements are private. Phalen Funeral Home has care of arrangements.

Robert W. Eadie

WINSTED — Robert W. Eadie, 92, of Winsted died Oct. 8, 2011, after a short illness.

Bob was born in Manhattan on Nov. 28, 1918, to the late Sarah (OBrien) and Harold Eadie and was raised in Pearl River, N.Y.

At age 18, Bob enlisted in the U.S. Army and served as a messenger in the Fourth Signal Company, 16th Infantry at Fort Jay, N.Y. He completed a three-year enlistment in the Army and in June of 1940 enlisted into the U.S. Navy, the service branch that would become his lifelong passion.

Wallace Hope Fax

SHARON — Wallace Hope Fax, 79, of Old Sharon Road died Oct. 8, 2011, at Sharon Hospital. He was the husband of Rosemary (Bender) Fax.

Mr. Fax was born in Torrington on Jan. 9, 1932, the son of the late Hazel (Hope) and Reuben Fax. He was raised in West Cornwall and was a graduate of Salisbury School. He studied with the Art Students League in New York City.

He was an artist and painted many paperback romantic books covers for Dell Publishing and Bantam Books.

In addition to his wife, Rosemary, Mr. Fax is survived by a son, Ethan Lawrence Fax of West Cornwall.

Douglas Jardine

SHARON — Douglas Jardine died suddenly on Oct. 5, 2011, at his home in Hanoi, Vietnam. He was born in Meriden, Conn., on April 10, 1962, and had been a resident of Hanoi for the past five years.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Nguyen Thi Dieu Huong; his parents, David and Joan Jardine of Sharon; and a sister, Leslie and her partner, George Buzzell, of Burlington, Mass.

Anna E. Whitbeck

SALISBURY — Anna E. Whitbeck, 84, a lifelong resident of Salisbury, died Oct. 10, 2011, at Noble Horizons.

She was born March 30, 1927.

A gathering in her memory will be held at a future date.
