Robert D. Schiffer

ANCRAMDALE — Robert D. Schiffer, 80, a 39-year resident of Ancramdale, formerly of Wassaic, died Aug. 21, 2011, at home surrounded by his loving family.

Mr. Schiffer was a farmer and truck driver at Wassaic Developmental Center in Wassaic for 39 years, retiring in 1986.

He was born May 2, 1931, in Poughkeepsie, the son of the late Grace (Hardin) and Hubert Schiffer. He was a graduate of Amenia High School.

Fifty-six years ago on July 7, 1955, he married Vivian Tripp, who survives at home.

Reinaldo ‘Ray’ Torres

PINE PLAINS — Reinaldo “Ray” Torres, 56, an 18-year resident of Pine Plains, passed away on Aug. 16, 2011, at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie.

He was born in New York City on Jan. 3, 1955, the son of the late Elvira (Ortiz) and Reinaldo Torres.

In 1974, Ray began five years of active military service in the U.S. Navy during which he achieved the rank of hospital corpsman second class and earned a Good Conduct Award as well as a Humanitarian Service Medal. From 1979 to 1986, Ray served in the U.S. Navy Reserves.

Robin Marie Allison

SALISBURY — Robin Marie Allison passed away in an accidental drowning on Aug. 3, 2011, at the age of 36.

She was born on July 17, 1975, in Morristown, N.J. She attended Salisbury Central School and graduated from Housatonic Valley Regional High School in 1993.

She resided in Phoenix, Ariz.,with her fiance, Jason Bickel, and his three children, Ashlyn, Katelyn and Andrew, where she was studying in the medical field.

Robert Landon Belcher

FALLS VILLAGE — Robert Landon Belcher, 57, of Roanoke, Va., formerly of Falls Village, passed away July 30, 2011.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Mary Ellen Belcher; his sons, Ryan and Cory Belcher; his parents, John Belcher of Torrington and Priscilla Belcher of Falls Village; his sister, Pamela Belcher of Atlanta, Ga.; and numerous close family and friends.

Bob loved being a dad.

He coached youth recreational and travel soccer.

He worked in the IT field for 35 years and began his IT career at Colonial Bank.

CORNWALL — A memorial to celebrate the life of Harriette Dorsen, who passed away on June 5, 2011, will be held on Saturday, Aug. 27, at 4 p.m. in the Meeting House of the UCC, on Bolton Hill Road in Cornwall Village. A reception will follow.

Memorial service: William Frederick Pulver

SALISBURY — A memorial service will be held for William “Bill” Frederick Pulver Sr. at St. John’s Church in Salisbury on Saturday, Aug. 20, at 11 a.m.
Mr. Pulver died at home on June 8, 2011, at the age of 92. He was the husband of Adrienne “Adie” Thorn, who predeceased him in 2005.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to St. John’s Church, Salisbury, or the Salisbury Rotary Club Scholarship Fund. The Kenny Funeral Home in Sharon has charge of arrangements.

Stuart Kellogg

LAKEVILLE — Stuart Kellogg, 63, of Apple Valley, Calif., beloved partner, brother, uncle, writer, artist, bibliophile and rights advocate, died Aug. 3, 2011.
He is survived by Fernando Torres, his partner of 26 years; his sister, Nancy Lightbody; his brother, David; his nieces, Anne and Lisa Lightbody; his nephews, Matt and Ben Kellogg; his stepmother, Katharine “Kit” Kellogg of Lakeville; and his stepbrother, Peter Whitmore.
He was the son of the late Wynne (Krementz) and George Dwight Kellogg Jr., who was a teacher for many years at The Hotchkiss School.

Frank R. Mastropolo

ANCRAMDALE — Frank R. Mastropolo, 94, died Aug. 8, 2011. He was born Aug. 11, 1918, in Brooklyn, N.Y.

Frank was a resident of Ancramdale for 60 years. He and his wife, Angelina, who predeceased him, were co-owners of the Arzano and Mastropolo Poultry Farm until the early 1980s.

He was a carpenter and woodworker by trade, and built their home and farm. Frank pursued his love of woodworking until the age of 90.

Robert E. Murphy

MILLERTON — Robert E. Murphy, 81, of Deer Run Road passed away Aug. 14, 2011, at the Sharon Health Care Center.

He was born in New York City on April 24, 1930, a son of Dolores (Rey) and Lawrence Murphy.

Formerly of Unionvale, Mr. Murphy attended Our Lady of Hope Parish in Copake Falls.

Prior to his retirement he was employed as evening manager at Grand Union in Hopewell Junction.

Merle F. Anderson

SHARON — Merle F. Anderson, 62, died peacefully at home Aug. 6, 2011, surrounded by his loving family, after a brief illness.

Merle was born in Niskayuna, N.Y., in 1948, the son of Madeline and the late Merle Anderson.

Merle was the greenskeeper at the Sharon Country Club for 10 years, was a service technician for Community Fuel and worked at Kent School for the past 28 years, where he was dedicated and committed to the Kent School hockey rink.

Merle was a past member of the Sharon Fire Department and Sharon Lions Club and was a dedicated family man.
