John ‘Jack’ Falconer Fisher III

LAKEVILLE —John “Jack” Falconer Fisher III died peacefully June 14, 2011, in Barre, Vt. He was the husband of the late Florence (Kendall) Fisher, whom he married in 1954.

He was 97 years old, born on March 21, 1914, in Atlantic City, N.J. the son of Hannah (Marter) and John F. Fisher Jr.

Jack had many careers and hobbies throughout his life. He was often referred to as “Gentleman Jack.” He loved nature, the mountains and a good gin martini.

Harry A. Gerowe Sr.

KENT — Harry A. Gerowe Sr., 80, of Brookfield, Conn., passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his family, on June 10, 2011.

Harry was a licensed lay minister, working part-time for more than a decade as the coordinator of membership care and involvement at the Congregational Church of Brookfield, where he and his wife, Evelyn, had been members since 1962.

Harry married Evelyn in 1955 in Trumbull, Conn. She survives at home.

Eric E. Haight

CLINTON CORNERS — Eric E. Haight, 74, passed away June 13, 2011, at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie after a short illness.

He was born in Poughkeepsie on March 29, 1937, the son of the late Thelma (Coffin) and Paul Haight.

He was a member of the Ralph T. Waterman Bird Club, Sharon Audubon and the Stanford Historical Society. He also was a former member of Stanford Fire Company.

He enjoyed hiking, walking the Rail Trail and bird watching and was an avid Red Sox fan.
Mr. Haight coached the Stanford Twins Little League team.

John P. Whalen

DOVER PLAINS — John P. Whalen, 71, a 52-year resident of Dover Plains, died June 17, 2011, at his home.

He was born May 16, 1940, in Chateaugay, N.Y., the son of the late Stella (Brickey) and Patrick Whalen. On March 3, 1962, in Dover Plains he married Donna Kniffen, who survives at home.

Mr. Whalen earned an associate’s degree in childcare from Dutchess Community College in Poughkeepsie in 1970.

He was a midline supervisor at the Wassaic Developmental Center for 34 years before retiring in 1995.

Harold Victor Klare

PINE PLAINS — Harold Victor Klare, 99, a resident since 1954 of Jordan Lane Farm in Pine Plains, died April 19, 2011. At the time of his death, Mr. Klare was in a nursing home in Sunderland, Mass.

His wife, the former Martha Elizabeth Jordan, whom he married May 31, 1940, in Jamaica, N.Y., predeceased him in March 1995.

Harold Klare was born March 7, 1912, in Ridgewood, N.Y., the son of Freda (Welz) and August Klare. He graduated magna cum laude in 1933 from Marietta College in Marietta, Ohio, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa.

Martha (Boschen) Porter

SALISBURY — Martha (Boschen) Porter, 96, died peacefully at Noble Horizons on June 17, 2011.

She was born in Terra Ceia, N.C., on Jan. 22, 1915, daughter of the late Lillian (Wilkinson) and William Boschen.

Martha graduated from St. Mary’s Hall in Burlington, N.J., and studied painting at The Art Students League. She worked in fashion and interior design in New York City, was a member of The Fashion Group and The National Arts Club, and moved to northwest Connecticut in the early 1960s.

Beverly A. Jenks

MILLERTON — Beverly A. Jenks, 68, a lifelong resident of Millerton, passed away on June 8, 2011, at home.

She was born in North Canaan on March 21, 1943, the daughter of the late Helen (Liner) and Frank Jenks.

Ms. Jenks worked for Becton Dickinson Co. in North Canaan for more than 20 years.
She loved all animals, especially her beloved Jack Russell terrier, Snowman.

She also enjoyed cooking and word puzzles, and was a fan of The Worldwide Wrestling Federation.

Susan M. Lynch

MILLERTON — Susan M. Lynch, 61, of Potter Hollow, N.Y., passed away at St. Peter’s Hospice Inn in Albany, N.Y., on June 18, 2011.

She was born in Elizabeth, N.J., on Aug. 3, 1949, the daughter of the late Mary (Moore) and Andrew Lynch.

Susan was employed by the New York State Department of Criminal Justice as a supervisor in the fingerprinting department. She enjoyed gardening and was an excellent weaver, winning several awards at the local county fairs.

Teresa J. Moore

SHARON — Teresa J. Moore, 45, passed away June 17, 2011, with her family by her side. She was born
July 1, 1965, in Sharon the daughter of Eileen (Morrison) and Thomas J. Moore Jr.

She graduated from Stissing Mountain High School in Pine Plains in 1983 and spent most of her working life in the
food service business. She worked at Foster’s Coach House in Rhinebeck for more than 16 years.

She always enjoyed fashion and the finer things in life and at the same time was very
passionate about the underdogs, who were mostly four-legged and furry.

An Icon Bridging Two Centuries

A sounds of the hymns rose to the rafters of St. Joseph’ Sanctuary, the funeral service of an icon spanning two centuries, was taking place. The appearance of friends in our lives still leaves me somewhat mystified. How the human chemistry works its magic to create a lasting friendship still leaves me in wonder.
