Frederick E. Keller Jr.

LAKEVILLE — Frederick E. Keller Jr., 86, of Lakeville died Nov. 27, 2011, at Noble Horizons, where he had been a resident for several years. He was the husband of Helen (Beers) Keller for the past 60 years.

Mr. Keller was born in Fairfield, Conn., on July 25, 1925, the son of the late Mattie (Mortensen) and Frederick E. Keller Sr.

Mr. Keller was a Marine veteran of World War II. After serving his country he met and married Helen Beers of Bridgeport, Conn., in 1951.

Edmund Harry Dean

FALLS VILLAGE — Edmund Harry Dean, 91, a lifelong resident of Falls Village, passed away Nov. 21, 2011, following a brief illness. He was the loving husband of 65 years to the late Alberta (Otis) Dean, who died in 2010.

Edmund was born April 14, 1920, in Falls Village, the son of the late May (Beebe) and Harry Edmund Dean.

He lived a long and active life as a farmer and served the community on many boards and committees. After retiring from dairy farming, he loved growing vegetables and flowers and was known especially for his sweet corn.

Arnold C. Agar III

ASHLEY FALLS — Arnold C. Agar III, 28, of Canaan Road passed away Nov. 26, 2011, at the Bay State Medical Center in Springfield, Mass., due to long-term complications from battling cancer.

Arnold was born Feb. 9, 1983, in Great Barrington, the son of Diana (Blouin) and Arnold C. Agar Jr.

Arnold fought his disease with great courage. He loved his family and friends and enjoyed spending time with them and also spending time with his two dogs, Spunky and Chico. He also was quite a gourmet cook.

Jeffrey A. Lovetere, 56, of Winsted, died Nov. 18, 2011. Calling hours were held Nov. 20 and a Mass of Christian burial was held Nov. 21. Burial followed in St. Joseph Cemetery. Montano-Shea Funeral Home has care of arrangements.

Rita Mae Warren, 81, of Winsted, died Nov. 16, 2011. Graveside services were held in Winchester Cemetery Nov. 22. Maloney Funeral Home has care of arrangements.

Richard Anthony Alto Sr.

LAKEVILLE — Richard Anthony Alto Sr., 79, died Nov. 14, 2011, in Yarmouth Port, Mass.

He was born June 7, 1932.

A former resident of Lake­ville and assistant principal at Housatonic Valley Regional High School, Dick Alto was an educator who mixed humor with traditional family values, enriching the lives of countless young people as a high school administrator.

Dorothy (Barth) Rossman

MILLERTON — Dorothy (Barth) Rossman, 94, died Nov. 14, 2011, at Noble Horizons. She was the widow of Kenneth Rossman.

Born Nov. 22, 1916, in Millerton, she was the daughter of Caroline and Fred Barth. Until recently she had lived all of her life in Millerton. She graduated from Millerton High School.

She was a World War II veteran. A Navy Wave, she worked in air traffic control.

She also worked as a florist at Barnard’s and later was part of the food service staff at Webutuck Central School.

In Appreciation: Robert Estabrook

One of the hardest parts of being old is witnessing the passing of so many who have been passengers with you in life’s journey. But in my long 87 years of life, there is no friend I mourn more deeply than Bob Estabrook.

Bob was a very special person with myriad interests, but his dedication to responsible journalism, freedom of information and the people’s right to know was the bond that cemented our relationship.

Robert Harley Estabrook

SALISBURY — Robert Harley Estabrook, editor and publisher emeritus of The Lakeville Journal, who had been associated with the newspaper since 1971 following a 25-year career on The Washington Post as an editor and foreign correspondent, died Nov. 15, 2011, at Noble Horizons. He was 93 and was the husband of the late Mary Lou (Stewart) Estabrook, to whom he had been married for 67 years.
