William E. Sprossel Sr.

PINE PLAINS — William E. Sprossel Sr., 84 , died on June 22, 2019, at his home in Pine Plains. 

Mr. Sprossel was a mason who owned and operated Sprossel Masonry for 35 years. 

Born on May 21, 1935, in Sharon, he was the son of the late Mabel (Somers) and Otto Sprossel. 

He proudly served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. 

On July 6, 1956, in Dover Plains, he married Joyce MacDonald, who survives at home. 

Jean Sartori

DOVER PLAINS — Jean Sartori, 93, a lifelong resident of Dover Plains, died on June 22, 2019, at Noble Horizons.  

Born on Sept. 10, 1925, in Sharon, she was the daughter of the late Anna (Hoag) and  Errol B. Hufcut.  

On Jan. 18, 1948, in Dover Plains,she married Marco Sartori, who died on April 28, 1998.  

She was a graduate of Dover High School, Class of 1944, and a member of the Dover Second Baptist Church in Dover Plains.

Marion (Branche) Reed

SHARON — Marion (Branche) Reed, 101, of Middletown, Conn., and formerly of Sharon, the widow of Millard “Bud” Orson Reed, passed away on June 12, 2019 at Middlesex Hospital. 

Born in Lakeville, she was the daughter of the late Ora (Brown) and William Branche.

Marion lived in Sharon, where she was a member of the Sharon Methodist Church, before moving to Middletown in 2009. She was a hospice volunteer for many years. 

Marion loved her home and gardening and was very outgoing and an instant friend to everyone she met.

Neva ‘Jean’ Tyler

WEST CORNWALL — Neva “Jean” Tyler, 91, of West Cornwall, died at home on May 30, 2019. 

She was born Aug. 19, 1927, in LaPorte City, Iowa, the second of five children, to Mary A. (Draegert) and Leslie E. Craft. After graduating from Illinois State Normal University in 1950, she married David T. Tyler and together they settled in Fort Atkinson, Wis., to raise their family.

Robert B. ‘Bob’ Pauls

WEST CORNWALL — Robert B. “Bob” Pauls passed away June 14, 2019, at his home in West Cornwall. 

Bob was born Jan. 30, 1945, the son of the late Rosalind and Aaron Pauls. During his university years, he pursued his passion for baseball playing first baseman for a minor league team in Ohio.

After graduating from Ohio State and Pratt Institute, he began what would be a peripatetic lifestyle. He spent his early years abroad living and working in Africa, South America and Europe. 

John Felton Ashton

CORNWALL — John Felton Ashton, 89, a resident of Darien, Conn., died on June 20, 2019, in his home surrounded by his loving family.  

Mr. Ashton was born in Bronxville, N.Y., and for most of his adult life lived in Darien and Westport, Conn. He was the son of the late Henry Rusling Ashton and Ruth Felton, residents of Bronxville for more than 40 years.

Mr. Ashton attended the Harvey School in Hawthorne, N.Y., and in 1947 graduated from Phillips Exeter Academy in Exeter, N.H. 

Steven Francis Wingard

FALLS VILLAGE — Steven Francis Wingard, son of Joan and Jerri Wingard of Falls Village, passed away in a work-related accident on Friday, June 21, 2019 in Greenwich, N.Y. His physical presence leaves his parents and his brother Luis, as well as numerous relatives and friends who will cherish his memory.

Steven provided endless laughter and joy to those who were fortunate enough to enjoy his company. He graduated from Housatonic Valley Regional in 2012, where he won a state wrestling championship and was voted Class S Most Outstanding Wrestler. 

Margaret (McEnroe) Wilcox

AMENIA — Margaret (McEnroe) Wilcox, 82, a lifelong resident of Amenia, passed away on June 21, 2019, at Sharon Hospital following an extended and valiant battle with cancer. 

Margaret had a 42-year career in banking, serving as the former manager of the Millerton National Bank. She later worked as loan officer, senior vice president and treasurer for Salisbury Bank and Trust Co. in Salisbury, retiring in 1999. 

Born on July 4, 1936, in Sharon, she was the daughter of the late Dorothy (Belter) and Leo E. McEnroe Sr. 

Diane May (deManbey) Duebber

NORFOLK — Diane May (deManbey) Duebber, 71, lost her valiant fight against ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease) on June 20, 2019. Her courage and humility in the face of this devastating disease were greatly admired by her friends and family. 

Nicknamed “Dinny”, she was born Jan. 9, 1948, the third among seven children of Lyndsay and Claire deManbey of Norfolk.  Her natural born creativity as a singer, writer and artist made her a camp counselor favorite at Camp Maria Pratt when she was a teenager. 

Peter Donald Schultz

SALISBURY — Peter Donald Schultz, who was born Nov. 30, 1959, died May 19, 2019.

He was a graduate of Housatnic Valley Regional High School, Class of 1977.

He played soccer and golf, loved skiing, and was on the ski team and chorus and supported a number of shows in the high school’s theater department. 

He drove for the Lakeville Taxi for a number of years and was an EMT with the Salisbury Ambulance and a guard at The Hotchkiss School.
