WEBUTUCK — Prepped with ice cream, open doors and valuable information, the Webutuck PTA sparked student enthusiasm about the new school year at its annual Back to School event on Tuesday, Sept. 3.

Running from 4 to 6 p.m. on the lawn in front of the Eugene Brooks Intermediate School (EBIS) and Webutuck High School (WHS) building, the streets were lined with the cars of families looking to get a head start on the 2019-20 school year a day early. Immersion at Indian Rock

Webutuck third graders traveled back to the 1800s at the annual Immersion Day at the Indian Rock Schoolhouse on Friday, June 7. Students were given a hands-on exploration of life in the 1800s through a variety of activities, including grave rubbing, old-time games, stories, making butter and doing lessons in the Indian Rock Schoolhouse. Prior to the activities, students and teachers held a special dedication and tree planting ceremony for third grade teacher Glen White, pictured above, in honor of his retirement from the Webutuck Central School District this year.

Webutuck students head to Boston

Eighth graders from Eugene Brooks Intermediate School took a class trip to Boston on Thursday and Friday, May 9 and 10. The students toured the city and recorded their activities, and some even shared their experiences with The Millerton News. Below is one of a series of three student reports.

WEBUTUCK — Webutuck Superintendent of Schools Raymond Castellani assured the public of the district’s intentions to ensure student safety and hold individuals to account for negative behaviors following an incident in which a student sent an anonymous threat via text message.

How does your garden grow?

WEBUTUCK — Students enrolled in the North East Community Center’s (NECC) After School program had the perfect spring day to celebrate the grand opening of the Webutuck School Garden with a garden party on Thursday, May 16. 
Following their arrival to the garden behind Webutuck High School at 3:30 p.m., the students were divided into two groups: one with after school students in kindergarten and first grade and another with students in second and third grade.

Webutuck has three candidates for BOE election

WEBUTUCK — With spring paving the way for new beginnings, the Webutuck Central School District has opened the door to three candidates ready to serve their community as members of the Webutuck Board of Education (BOE).
Two seats are available this year, each with a three-year term that will start on Monday, July 1, and end on June 30, 2022. Running for office this year are incumbent candidates Christopher Mayville and Steve Abad and newcomer DeLora Brooks.

Students display torrents of talent

WEBUTUCK — The Webutuck PTA put the spotlight on students who performed in the PTA’s third annual Talent Show on Friday, May 10, in the Webutuck High School auditorium. 
A basket themed silent auction was held, giving people a chance to bid on a variety of prizes donated by local businesses. Afterward, the students performed.
“I thought all of the students did an amazing job,” praised Webutuck PTA President Anna Kall. “I was so proud of all the student performers as they are each uniquely talented.”
