MILLERTON — Only a few weels ago, Three Meadows Spirits and its signature Peony Vodka were chosen by “The Fifty Best” as a gold medal winner in this year’s “Best Flavored Vodka” awards. “The Fifty Best” is self-described as an “unbiased guide to fine living for those with epicurean tastes.”

Three Meadows Spirits owner Leslie Farhangi submitted her product for the contest last summer. Intrigued by its focus on craft spirits, Farhangi thought it a worthwhile competition.

MBA gets to work, plans for fall

MILLERTON— The Millerton Business Alliance (MBA) kicked off the fall season with a packed house and a calendar of community events at a meeting on Thursday, Sept. 13.
The monthly meeting was held at Montage. MBA members gave a warm welcome to Christine Sergent, the new executive director of the North East Community Center (NECC) in Millerton.

Benefit dinner to help local resident Jim Tanner

MILLERTON— The mark of a good man may well be how quickly that man’s neighbors arrive to help when trouble appears on his doorstep.
By that measure, lifelong Millerton resident Jim Tanner is shown to be a good man, indeed. Hundreds are stepping up as he and his family face the challenges presented by recently diagnosed Stage 4 pancreatic cancer, a disease that has rendered this husband and devoted father of three, a self-employed business man, unable to work.

Tavern Trail leads to American Legion

MILLERTON — The tragedy and triumph that was World War I will be on display at the final Dutchess County 2018 Historic Tavern Trail “Year of the Veteran” event at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 21, at the American Legion Post 178 in Millerton.
The tale will be told thru war-time images and discussions of three North East residents: one who survived and two who did not. The last were killed some 10 miles apart on the same day, November 1, 1918, only 10 days before the end of the war.

Town to fund bog turtle monitoring plan

NORTH EAST— The Town Board was prompt in its decision to approve an expenditure of funds for the Bog Turtle Monitoring Plan at a special meeting held on Thursday, Aug. 23.
The meeting was held at 1:30 p.m. North East town Supervisor George Kaye, Councilmen Ralph Fedele and John Merwin and Deputy Town Clerk Gail Wheeler were in attendance.

Water service line break closes library

MILLERTON — The NorthEast-Millerton Library closed its doors on Wednesday, Sept. 5, as a result of a water service line break that left the library without adequate water.
The recent issue with the water main began around the last week of August when water pressure started to decline. By Tuesday, Sept. 4, the pressure had diminished to the point where library staff were unable to flush the toilets.
