MILLERTON— The Millerton Business Alliance (MBA) kicked off the fall season with a packed house and a calendar of community events at a meeting on Thursday, Sept. 13.

The monthly meeting was held at Montage. MBA members gave a warm welcome to Christine Sergent, the new executive director of the North East Community Center (NECC) in Millerton.

As an update on the upcoming Fall for Art event, Kathleen Dietter said it’s been advertised in the newspaper and on the radio, with postcards, with Dutchess County Tourism and through other advertising outlets.

MILLERTON — The farm’s name is slightly different — it’s now Daisey Hill instead of the former Daisi Hill Farm — but the tree-lined drive around Indian Lake Road still leads to the beautiful and bountiful farm that’s served the community for decades.

Students at Civic Life learn to speak out

MILLERTON — The students at Classical Magnet High School in Hartford don’t think much of the food in the school cafeteria.
This is not an uncommon state of affairs among American students.
But a group at Classical Magnet made a movie about it.
“Feeding Our Future” was the first of six student films from the Civic Life Project, shown at the The Moviehouse in Millerton on Sunday, June 10, under the aegis of The Salisbury Forum.

NECC provides critical after-school care

MILLERTON— As the school year heads toward its conclusion, Webutuck Superintendent of Schools Ray Castellani recently commented that the North East Community Center (NECC) After-School Program can ease some of the strains modern life can put on families. 
“We realize that continued after-school activity is imperative” for children’s development, he said, but parents can’t always spend the necessary time.

Irondale Schoolhouse opens for 2018

MILLERTON — The historic Irondale Schoolhouse had an ideal spring afternoon for its open house on Saturday, May 26.
The schoolhouse doors opened for the public from noon until 4 p.m. Every so often, the ring of the bell rose above the conversation, the traffic and the weekend entertainment taking place in the village as children eagerly tugged on the bell’s rope.

Silo Ridge Sewage Water Corporation OK’d

AMENIA— The Amenia Town Board approved the initial rate request of the Silo Ridge Sewage Works Corporation  (SWC) with a majority vote at its meeting on Thursday, March 17.
With the exception of Councilwoman Vicki Doyle, all board members were present.
