Palling around with Pete

MILLERTON — The NorthEast-Millerton Library found the purr-fect way to get families out of the summer heat and indoors, inviting local children to take part in a few Saturday activities featuring Pete the Cat on Saturday, July 20. Starting at 10:30 a.m., the library welcomed five little ones who were eager to play games and read stories starring Pete the Cat and his famous white shoes.

NECC bus is adding rides to Freshtown in Amenia, and more

MILLERTON — In response to the closing of the only grocery store in Millerton, Northeast Dutchess Transit will provide shopping trips to Freshtown in Amenia on Tuesdays and Fridays.
Rides will be leaving from NECC at 1 p.m.  If a client is unable to get to the North East Community Center, someone will pick the client up at home if it works with the schedule.
Everyone must pre-register, on a first come first served basis. Seating is limited. The round trip fee is $5.

Rope rescue needed for Brace Mountain hiker

MILLERTON — With both locals and visitors spending their Fourth of July holiday outdoors, many emergency agencies were on standby in case of an emergency. One such emergency occurred in the Taconic State Park’s Brace Mountain, near Millerton. A number of local emergency agencies responded to a 911 call about a man who had fallen down the side of a cliff while hiking at the park, on Thursday, July 4.
