NORTH EAST — Property owners in the town of North East take heed — Monday, March 28, is the time to learn about the final stages of the current townwide property reassessment project. A public hearing will be held at the Millerton American Legion Hall Post 178.
The impetus
Town Assessor Katherine Johnson is planning the hearing to inform the public about the reassessment project, which began in 2007 after the town dissolved its agreement with former consultant John Watch of MJW Consultants.

NORTH EAST — Mike Lyman could do without all the ice and rain that’s been falling recently. For starters, his North Center Street home flooded last week, something he said had never happened no matter how rainy the weather.
The situation made him revise the above sentiment, to what he could really do without is not so much the rain, but rather the recent development of the property adjacent to his, which he blames for the change in topography that actually caused the flooding.

On McGhee Hill and Silver Mountain roads, some of the highest points in the town of North East, freezing temperatures caused massive amounts of ice to build up on trees following last week’s storm. Many trees eventually collapsed under the weight, taking power lines down with them. The area was one of the last to get power restored. “It looks like a second World War battlefield up here,” described resident Lloyd Levi.

MILLERTON — The village of Millerton has joined the rest of the nation in mourning the death of 21-year-old Zachary Cuddeback, the American Air Force serviceman with local roots who was shot and killed last week in an attack on U.S. soldiers.
According to CNN.com, the shooting took place on Wednesday, March 2, at the Frankfurt airport in Germany. Senior Airman Nicholas J. Alden, 25, of South Carolina, was also killed. Two others were wounded in the attack on the U.S. military bus. There has been an arrest in the case. Go to CNN.com for more information.
