Residents seek relaxation through Waterfall Qigong

PINE PLAINS — To handle the stress of the holiday season, Pine Plains residents learned new relaxation techniques by attending the Waterfall Qigong classes held in the Community Room above the Pine Plains Free Library.
Led by certified Waterfall Qigong teacher Steven Michael Prague, the three classes focused on the tools of Qigong (a Chinese system of physical exercises and breathing control) and Tai Chi (a form of exercise involving a series of movements performed in a slow, focused manner accompanied by deep breathing).

Webutuck’s Hannah Lounsbury to play collegiate soccer

WEBUTUCK— The Webutuck Athletic Department is proud of varsity soccer star Hannah Lounsbury, who signed a letter of intent on Wednesday, Dec. 5, to play varsity soccer at Lycoming College in Williamsport, Penn.
A senior at Webutuck High School (WHS), Hannah has been an active soccer player in the Webutuck school district since seventh grade, competing on the school’s varsity girls soccer team since the eighth grade.

Hope Rising Farm honors its Volunteer of the Year

MILLERTON — Hope Rising Farm LLC honored Millerton resident Lois Alimonti with the Volunteer of the Year award at a holiday feast potluck held on Sunday, Dec. 2.
A neighbor of Hope Rising Farm LLC owner Jackie Wilkane on Morse Hill Road, Alimonti has been a reliable volunteer at the farm for about a year. Describing herself as someone who likes to keep busy, she said the experience of volunteering at Hope Rising Farm has been a wonderful one between her time working with the horses and  participating in farm programs.

Hammell named new athletic director for Millbrook High School

MILLBROOK— For Alfred Hammell, becoming athletic director at Millbrook Hugh School would seem to be a natural sequence in life. A Pleasant Valley native, he has always managed to stay near his roots. A series of moves, both planned and intuitive, have brought him to where he is today. 
Hammell is sharing duties with Bill Blaney, the outgoing athletic director, who will relinquish the job to Hammell in  2019.
Hammell said, “This is a positive for me. He is helping me to make the transition. It’s been great, making it seamless.”

Stissing Mountain basketball round-up: Pine Plains finds victory in weekend competitions

PINE PLAINS — Fortune favored the Pine Plains junior varsity and varsity basketball teams this past weekend.
On Friday, Dec. 14, the Stissing Mountain Junior/Senior High School junior varsity boys basketball team defeated John A. Coleman Catholic High School at home, 62–35.
The Bombers were led by George Bruce, who scored a total of 21 points. Zach Strang scored 16 points for the Bombers while teammate Greg Starzyk scored nine points.

Pine Plains basketball triumphs in opening game

PINE PLAINS— The Pine Plains varsity girls basketball team won their opening game of the season on Friday, Nov. 30.
The team defeated Yonkers Montessori Academy 58–29.
With Coach Craig Brodhead and Assistant Coach Erin Doyle at the helm, this year’s team includes two senior players, four juniors and several underclassmen.
As the Lady Bombers faced off against their opponent, Emily Torre scored 14 points for Pine Plains while Emma Hall scored 10 points. Also for Pine Plains, Autumn Smith scored eight points.
