Webutuck soccer defeated at home

WEBUTUCK1— With one day left of summer vacation, the Webutuck boys varsity soccer team challenged Dover on the field in a home game on Tuesday, Sept. 4.
By the end of the first half, the score was tied 2-2, and the intensity of the players soon matched the rising afternoon heat. The score changed  the second half of the game when Dover advanced with a goal.
With 28 minutes left in the second half, Dover led 3-2, then 4-2 four minutes later.

Residents take up arms in Tomato War

WASSAIC — With boxes of plump tomatoes at the ready, Philip Mactaggart and Gordon Elliott invited spectators to hurl tomatoes for an excellent cause at the third annual Tomato War on Sunday, Sept. 2.
Held at the Mactaggart property in Wassaic, this year’s Tomato War welcomed 300 guests, a notable increase from last year’s event by about 100 participants. With the return of the Children’s Tomato War, there were roughly 40 children under the age of 12 who signed up to participate.

Town of Washington Recreation hosts summer basketball clinic at Village Hall

MILLBROOK — Kenny Dawson, co-founder of Triple Threat Basketball out of Poughkeepsie, is coach and CEO of the Playmaker Basketball League. Dawson spent two weeks this summer coaching 20 youngsters the fine art of basketball. He also started the first Millbrook Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) basketball program, the Harlem Hoops.
Sponsored by the Town of Washington Recreation Department, the clinic ran the weekends of Aug. 6 and Aug. 13.

Millbrook School graduates coordinate 5K for Dyson Breast Center

POUGHKEEPSIE— As part of their senior project, Millbrook School students Zoe Acord, of Sharon, Conn., and Hannah Cavanaugh, of Darien, Conn., who have since graduated, wished to make an impact on the community while connecting to a cause close to their hearts.
“My mother was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008 and Hannah’s mother in 2016, each through early detection screenings,” Acord said.

Festival rolled into Northwest Corner with 100-car parade

FALSL VILLAGE — The vintage race car parade rolled through Lime Rock, Lakeville and Salisbury on a bright summer afternoon, Thursday, Aug. 30, fetching up in downtown Falls Village.
There were more than 100 cars in the parade, with an emphasis on Bugattis. Mitch Conroy, the parade organizer from Lime Rock Park, said it might be the biggest gathering of Bugattis ever in the Northeast, if not the world. More than 30 of the cars were Bugattis; more are expected to take part in the weekend-long Historic Festival event.
