Millbrook, Webutuck each earn a girls varsity soccer win

WEBUTUCK — The Millbrook girls varsity soccer team faced Webutuck on Monday, Oct. 17, and secured a win in the second half.
The scoreboard was blank at halftime, but Millbrook was able to make the winning goal off a free kick in the second half, making the final score 1-0.
The game brought Webutuck’s overall record to 7-3-2. Its league record is 4-3-2 and its division record is 3-1-1.
On Wednesday, Oct. 12, the Webutuck girls played against Coleman to earn a 3-0 victory.

Onteora beats Pine Plains

PINE PLAINS — The Stissing Mountain High School girls varsity soccer team faced Onteora at Pine Plains’ home field on Oct. 11 and suffered a sharp defeat. The final score was 0 to 6.
Pine Plains goalie Alex Delfino had 18 saves during the game in what Coach Kelly Hicks called “a great defensive effort.”
“Sara Patricola had a great game at forward and had eight shots on goal, but we couldn’t connect on any,” Hicks said.

Spirit, pride and heart are part of Millbrook’s homecoming

MILLBROOK — Millbrook Central School District’s spirit week that ended Oct. 15 included numerous fun activities to boost school pride.
Each school in the district celebrated spirit week by dressing up in a different themes each day; there was pajama day and twin day, for instance. Each varsity team had a game under the stadium lights with many of the teams acknowledging the seniors as their parents presented them with flowers.

Pine Plains volleyball teams bump out two wins

PINE PLAINS — The Stissing Mountain High School girls volleyball teams earned two wins against Saugerties on Wednesday, Oct. 5.
The varsity team only needed to play four sets to secure their win. The scores were 25-20, 25-11, 18-25 and 25-21.
“The thing that struck me the most is that they played with emotion. They were excited. We play better that way,” said coach Bob Stevenson. “As a team, it was our best match of the year.”
Earlier in the evening, the junior varsity team took to the floor, winning two out of three sets for the overall win. The scores were 25-17, 16-25 and 27-25.

Pine Plains suffers harsh loss against Spackenkill

PINE PLAINS — The Stissing Mountain High School girls varsity soccer team suffered another loss on Wednesday, Oct. 5, in a home game against Spackenkill. The final score was 5 to 1.
Spackenkill made two quick goals in the first half, answered with a single goal by Stissing Mountain.
Spackenkill made three more goals in the second half, but Stissing Mountain wasn’t able to repeat their first goal.
“They just connected on more goals than we did,” said Hicks.

WEBUTUCK — Webutuck High School athletes have been busy kicking things into high gear on the soccer field recently. Both the boys and girls team have had some success during the past week of play.
Boys varsity soccer
On Thursday, Oct. 6, the Webutuck boys varsity soccer team played a home game against Millbrook, finishing with a 1-1 tie in overtime.
The day before, Wednesday, Oct. 5, the team faced Rhinebeck and pulled out a 1-0 win.

Pine Plains teams win two of three on homecoming

PINE PLAINS — Stissing Mountain High School held its homecoming football game on Friday, Sept. 30. Loyal supporters packed the stands and lined the field to cheer on their home team during the athletic battle against the Liberty Indians.
Liberty pulled out ahead early in the game and maintained control over the field for most of the game, eventually winning 35-28.
Pine Plains came back strong during the second half with three rushing touchdowns by Trevor Amato, Andrew Sharac and Austin Miller and a 40-yard touchdown pass from Bryant Rosado to Rob Lamont.
