MILLBROOK — The Millbrook Central School District held a meeting on Tuesday, June 4. 

The Safety Committee presented its goals review, including the Board of Education (BOE) Student and Staff Safety/Security Goals. The committee will continue to work to provide a safe and secure environment for all students and staff, and by the end of the 2018-19 school year, will provide evidence of building safety and security protocols to reflect recommendations from Altaris and/or the school resource officer (SRO).

MILLBROOK — The Millbrook Central School District Board of Education (BOE) regretfully accepted the resignation of long-time board member Deirdre Houston at its meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 8.

MILLBROOK — Grace Immigrant Outreach (GIO) hosted a round-table meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 9, for lunch and the sharing of information.
Evelyn Garzetta, director of the GIO, sponsors the meeting at Grace Church parish hall on a monthly basis. Garzetta also serves on the boards of the North East Community Center  (NECC) and the Foundation for Community Health. She works with 208 local agencies, foundations and other entities, helping the immigrant population as well as the overall community.

Klosty presents ‘Greece 66’ at Merritt

MILLBROOK — James Klosty is an author, a photographer and a very interesting person to talk to. His latest work, now featured at Merritt Bookstore, is “Greece 66.” He spoke about the period in his life when the photographs featured in the book were taken at an end-of-the-year book signing. It was 1966, and Klosty spent two months touring the islands of Greece — both mountains and mainland.

Art and concert delight all ages

MILLBROOK — Blue cats, dog trains and mouse helicopters adorn the walls of the Millbrook Library — whimsical, imaginative and colorful art works by Philippe Treuille.
The Millbrook Library held a champagne reception for the opening of Treuille’s exhibit on the evening of Friday, Jan. 4. More than 60 people attended, perusing the exhibit, admiring the fantastical work and meeting with the artist.

Elm Drive Elementary School reopens after mold remediation

MILLBROOK — When Elm Drive Elementary School students returned to school after a lengthy hiatus, they not only found the building freshly cleaned and painted, floors buffed and ceilings in good repair, but the furniture, the cubbies, work spaces and seats all movable, allowing for cleaning under and around them. Good news, following the discovery of mold at the school just days after it opened  for the academic year.

A royal reception at Grace Church

MILLBROOK — Dressed in robes of crimson and gold, carrying gifts and wearing crowns, a six-member chorus portrayed the coming of the three kings to Bethlehem to present gifts to the baby Jesus, at Grace Church on Sunday, Jan. 6. The Christian celebration is called the Epiphany, many know it as Three Kings Day, or some by Little Christmas.

Calendar girl at 97, artist wins top prize

MILLBROOK— At 97 years young, Shirley Nemetz-Ress is thrilled to be the artist selected to have her painting on the front cover of the 2019 Expressions calendar. It’s quite an honor. For more than 19 years, Watermark has published a full-color calendar, a collection of works from Watermark residences from around the country, of which The Fountains at Millbrook is one.

BOE discusses French trip, safety plan and more

MILLBROOK — The Millbrook Central School District Board of Education (BOE) met on Tuesday, Dec. 18. The first order of business was to accept the consent agenda. The second item was to award the Girls Volleyball Team with certificates and congratulations for placing second in the state finals.

MILLBROOK— The Taft School graduate Alexander Salnikoff, of Millbrook,  is a member of the Colgate University Class of 2022.
Corey Rundquist, of Millbrook, recently matriculated as a first-year student at Hamilton College. Rundquist is a graduate of Millbrook School.

A friendly auction

The Friends of the Millbrook Library held the closing reception for the library’s silent auction on Saturday, Dec. 15. Winners were announced. This year’s silent auction raised a grand total of $6,872.01. Organizers thank everyone for participating, and ask that winners pick up their items this week at the Millbrook Library.
