Falls Village

FALLS VILLAGE — Last month the All Boards Chairs (ABC) committee of the Region One Board of Education finished the evaluation of Region One Superintendent Pamela Vogel, who is in the second year of a three-year contract.

The assessment was done by the seven combined school boards in Region One: the six town boards in Cornwall, Canaan/Falls Village, Kent, North Canaan, Salisbury and Sharon, and the regional board.

It was then compiled and presented by the ABC committee, which is made up of the chairmen of the seven boards.

FALLS VILLAGE — Santa Claus was at the FFA holiday store on Saturday night, Dec. 16, at Housatonic Valley Regional High School.
Santa (Jameason Russin) helped a small boy overcome a bout of nerves, and the resourceful FFA team was able to provide the child with an elf house, a rare treat that happened to be available at the FFA store that day.

Vanishing ink (and oil paint) at 12x12 sale

FALLS VILLAGE —The flash art exhibit was gone in a flash. At “12 X12 2017,” the David M. Hunt Library’s pop-up gallery show (in its seventh year), the display was intact for mere minutes before it began disappearing. Such is the fleeting nature of the show every year.
Seventy-four artists from the community submitted work —sometimes offering multiple pieces — following the Falls Village library’s measurement requirements of 12 inches by 12 inches.

For young offenders, a second chance

Pohl had already made the presentation in Sharon and Falls Village, and will do the same in Cornwall this week.
Among the items in the presentation was a relatively new program that provides an alternative to the juvenile court system for minors.

For a woman who never sits still, a bench on the Green

Recently retired Falls Village First Selectman Pat Mechare (with her grandchildren in the photo above) was honored with a bench and plaque in her honor in the center of town near the Green. The inscription thanks her for her 40 years of “selfless service to the town” on the Board of Selectmen and in many volunteer and elected capacities.

Winter is here

Motorists faced snow, rain
FALLS VILLAGE — Despite snow and predicted freezing rain on Tuesday, Dec. 12, Region One schools were in session, a change from years when the slightest hint of inclement weather would have canceled classes.
Region One Superintendent Pam Vogel said Region One “subscribes to a weather system, where we receive daily emails” with reports and predictions for the area.
When bad weather is expected, school officials and meteorologist John Bagioni hold a conference call at 4:15 a.m.
